                       Young Arts Project 2018

This year our focus was to show secondary school boys, who tend to be less inclined to opt for Art at GCSE, what the subject could offer beyond Key Stage 3.

Our support enabled St Philip Howard Catholic School, in Barnham to run an all-day screen-printing workshop for twenty-five Year 8 boys run by contemporary artist, Sarah Pimenta, from Social Fabric. Over the course of the day the boys created mono-prints, cutting and printing architectural design stencils for a banner.

The result is an impressive banner, measuring 4 metres by 1.5 metres, which has been displayed in the Art Department end of year show. In addition the boys designed a T-shirt logo to print based on a topic or social concern of importance to them.

Feedback from the staff, students and parents has been overwhelmingly positive. The boys’ enthusiasm and creativity was “incredible”.

A huge thank you to all our members for their generous support for this extremely worthwhile venture with a local school!
